US president Barack Obama's approval rating has improved from 43 to 46 percent, according to a new poll by Fox News.

48 percent voters now disapprove the US president's job performance, which stood in the 43-49 percent range last month.

Responding to Obama's performance so far, 38 percent voters and 73 percent Democrats thought Obama deserved re-election, while 49 percent of the voters and 84 percent Republicans felt the opposite. 48 percent of the Independents also voted against Obama's re-election.

But Obama pips former President G.W. Bush in a hypothetical presidential matchup by a margin of eight percent.

900 voters were randomly chosen and interviewed on phone. The poll, with an error margin of +/-3 percent, was conducted by Opinion Dynamics Corp. on September 1 and 2.

Obama had garnered highest approval ratings in the initial months of his presidency, when 58-65 percent of voters supported him. He received the lowest rating in July 2010 when he got a support of only 43 percent, while half of the total voters disapproved his performance.

The Election Day for congressional races is set to take place after two months.

So far, Obama's average approval rating has been 51 percent. (ANI)
